The History of Lambda Nu
The Lambda Nu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was established on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University on March 9, 1991. Because of the persistent and energetic spirit of Tavier Galloway (Parks), Lambda Nu was born. Mrs. Galloway-Parks worked to recruit five additional young women to charter the first class of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., at Stephen F. Austin State University. Lambda Nu Charter members include the following women: Tavier Galloway (Parks), Evijuana Woodrow (Bynum); Betrice Powers (Thompson), Veronica Hill (Chimney); Marlow Upshaw (Adjankara), and Sonja Estes (Busha). These young women went to work recruiting members in an effort to grow the sisterhood. As the excitement grew on the campus of Stephen F. Austin, so did Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

The First Class name was “The Chosen Ones: Era of a New Dawn”. Lecia Swain played a vital part in setting the stage for this chapter to become a reality and Annette Hardin served as the on-site advisor for many years. Lambda Nu was then placed under the leadership of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Chapter of Longview, TX and is now under the leadership of the Iota Phi Sigma Chapter of Nacogdoches, TX. Lambda Nu excelled for many years and inducted many more young women into the sisterhood. The chapter became inactive in 2004 but reactivated their charter in 2021. The current members of Lambda Nu has not missed a beat in picking up where they left off in 2004.
